The History of Runes
Runes are a family of related alphabets used by Germanic peoples. The earliest runic inscriptions date back to around 150 AD. The three best-known runic alphabets are the Elder Futhark (2nd–8th centuries), the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc (5th–11th centuries), and the Younger Futhark (9th–11th centuries), which was used during the Viking Age.

In Old Norse mythology, runes were not just letters; they were considered sacred symbols discovered by Odin after he hung himself from the world tree, Yggdrasil. Today, many people use these runes for divination, wood burning, and as decorative symbols in Viking-themed social media bios and gaming profiles.
